• Hello,

I should start by saying that I’m completely new to using WordPress as a program–I installed it literally twenty minutes ago–and somewhat inexperienced with its technical side, so I may not get things right the first time.

Anyway, I got MAMP running (I’m on a Mac), installed WordPress, and everything’s fine and dandy there. I’d like to know how I can use the copy of WordPress I just installed to manage my existing WordPress blog (which was not created using WordPress as an installed program). Again, I’m extremely tech un-savvy here, so step-by-step instructions would be preferred but any help is appreciated.

I apologize if this makes no sense. As of now, I’m at the mercy of the forums.
    Thanks in advance.

Short answer: you can’t. Your local installation is completely separate from the remote site.

Poop. So, since I started the WordPress blog before I installed WordPress as a program, I won’t be able to do neat things like, say, install themes I download from the internet? (That was really the only reason I installed it–more freedom in controlling my blog’s appearance and customization tools.)

It doesn’t matter what order you installed WordPress in and where. Each installation is completely separate and independent.

So does the WordPress blog I created online count as an “installation”?
