• I am using the Atahualpa theme on WordPress. The Atahualpa Theme Options have frozen on “Start.”

The problem may have arisen when I switched browsers. I recently bought a new iMac and the OS (10.15.6) had a conflict with my browser, Firefox, so I trashed Firefox and reverted to Safari. However there are no error messages, so I’m only guessing.

Any help unfreezing the options would be greatly appreciated.

  • I also have problem with frozen Atahualpa Theme Options.
My Theme froze when I updated to PHP 7.4.

Sorry about – I do not take copy before I do update, and Atahualpa still frozen when I update back again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can install the plugin Enable jQuery Migrate Helper which will help in the short term but I would suggest you start planning a transistion to another theme.

FYI – I’m the one who has been doing support and maintnance on Atahualpa for the past 10 years.

Worked like a charm, juggledad, thanks a bunch.

I find your suggestion about transitioning disappointing. Atahualpa was one of the reasons I switched to WordPress from Blogger. Do you have any suggestions for a theme that would provide the same kind of ability to customize?

I have a question related to allowing readers to post comments. It looks like after WP was upgraded to the latest version, readers can’t post any more comments on older posts. I went to the WP settings for discussion and there seems to be nothing to prevent comments being posted. I’d appreciate any help.

@billlongstaff sorry I don’t know of a replacement as good as Atahualpa. I have mostly given up on wordpress except for a few exceptions.

@scmittal – have you checked the sites Discuession settings? (Settings->Discuession) I don’t think this is an Atahualpa issue.

    Hi,

When I activate the “Enable jQuery Migrate Helper” plugin I only get a warning at theme settingspage, regarding jQuery live() method.

The live() method was deprecated in jQuery version 1.7, and removed in version 1.9. Use the on() method instead. (link)

And when I change this everything works again.
Go to theme folder > options > ata-admin (.js) and look for live. Change into on and save file.

@juggledad Thanks for maintaining the theme all these years. Do you see any reason why we couldn’t make most css-style changes by directly editing the css.php file? For instance, changing the margins for the various alignments of images?

    Many thanks!

    Todd,
sure you could edit the css.php, but don’t forget you have the css override section in the theme. Just keep good notes incase you (or someone else) need to do something else in the future.

Flynn (the author of the theme) is looking at updating the theme so it will work with wordpress without any hacks. This will not have any new features, it’s meant to bring the code up to date so it won’t need things like the jquery migration helper plugin. If it is done, it will be sometime after the start of the new year.

@juggledad Yes, I did forget about that. I don’t think I’ve ever used it, but that’s the way to do what I want. It’s certainly safer, and it’ll show live updates.

Thanks also for the update about Flynn’s plans. I have several sites using Atahualpa, and I *really* would hate to dig around for another theme. If I needed to migrate, I’d probably use Python and Flask instead. I have some sites I’ve built with them already.

    Many thanks!!

    Todd
