Since Wordfence 7.x at manual “Block IP-Address” a new field “Block Reason” is mandatory.

    • Please make this field optional or
    • provide a filter to make this field optional via code or
    • provide a pre-filled text like “Manual block by administrator” or similar.

    Thanks.

    Hi,
Thanks for your suggestion, I’ve passed this onto our team, although I’m not sure if this can be seen in one of the plugin’s upcoming releases or not, but all suggestions are evaluated by our dev team and considered seriously.

    Thanks.

Blocking IPs is quite a new experience with WF 7.x

Scenario 1: You have an IP in clipboard which you want to block:

    WF 6.x

    1. click: button “Update Blocked IPs” in dashboard widget or menu “Blocking”
    2. click: in IP textfield, paste IP with strg-v
    3. click: button “Manually block IP”, done.

    3 clicks

    WF 7.x

    1. click: button “Update Blocked IPs” in dashboard widget
    2. click: block type “IP Address”
    3. click: in IP textfield, paste IP with strg-v
    4. click: in Block Reason textfield
    5. keyboard interaction: you have to enter some text
    6. click: button “Block this IP Address”

    5 clicks + 1 typing

Scenario 2: You want to make 6 temporarily blocked IPs from login permanent:

    WF 6.x

    1. click: button “Update Blocked IPs” in dashboard widget or menu “Blocking”
    2. click: tab “IPs locked out from login”
    3. click: button “Permanently block all temporarily blocked IP addresses”

    3 clicks

    WF 7.x

    1. click: button “Update Blocked IPs” in dashboard widget
    2. click: checkbox next to first temporarily blocked IP
    3. click: checkbox next to second temporarily blocked IP
    4. click: checkbox next to third temporarily blocked IP
    5. click: checkbox next to fourth temporarily blocked IP
    6. click: checkbox next to fifth temporarily blocked IP
    7. click: checkbox next to sixth temporarily blocked IP
    8. click: button “Make permanent”

8 clicks + manual searching login block type in list

It is NOT possible to auto-select checkboxes by “block type”.

We have many temporarily blocked IPs due to autoblock invalid login names and want to block these, not others.

Please reconsider this UX, the sooner the better…

^^ The new UI always requires more clicks whatever operation you want to perform.

    Hi @ov3rfly
    I appreciate your feedback, thanks!

I have a tip for you which should make it easier while filtering out the Blocked IPs list, you can just click on “Block Type” tab and you will get the IPs sorted according to the block type so you can easily identify those ones which were locked out from login.

    Thanks.

@wfalaa: Well, there was no sorting in block table when the feedback was posted.

But thanks for the tip, so instead with WF 7.1.0

8 clicks + manual searching login block type in list

we now have with WF 7.1.1

    9 clicks

    compared to WF 6.x

    3 clicks

    Still not really an improvement…
