asynchronous javascript for wp stats?

  • I would LOVE to have this as well, even more since the stats.wordpress.com included .js and .gif file (the smiley) is adding a lot of latency (respectively +500ms and 727ms) to my page load and thus blocking rendering of my pages.

I also mailed wordpress support for this issue and got a reply which states:

I’ve brought this suggestion to the attention of our team, but I can’t promise any kind of delivery on it at this time. We *do* currently load the JS for stats as late as possible to prevent inhibiting page rendering.

the problem is that even if the javascript is loaded as late as possible, it still does slow down page rendering.

let’s hope that someone at auttomatic looks at steve souders’ blog to gain some insight in the performance benefits of loading javascript asynchronously.

Thanks futta. At least it’s on their list now. Let’s hope for the best.

PS I love Steve’s blog. Learned so much about web performance.

this has just become extra important with google confirming that from now on speed has an impact on ranking.
