I am sure there’s an easy fix for this. When in assistant screen, trying to bulk edit my media, I’m only ever able to view 10 ITEMS AT A TIME. I want to change that to 100 ITEMS AT A TIME for faster bulk editing… so I may select many images at once via a check box, then select bulk edit… as opposed to only being able to do 10 at a time. I don’t know where in SETTINGS to change this default items per page. Please advise.

“Bulk Chunk Size” under settings didn’t change my assistant view.

Thanks for your question. Yes, there’s an easy fix for this…

In the upper right corner of the Media/Assistant submenu you will see a link for “Screen Options”. This link is a WordPress feature and appears on all the common admin screens. Click on it to pull down the “Show on screen” options. In the bottom left you will see “Entries per page”; that’s where you can set the number of items displayed in the submenu table.

The “Bulk Chunk Size” controls the number of items MLA sends to the server during the Bulk Edit processing. For example, if you have 100 items in your Bulk Edit list and a chunk size of 25, there will be four batches of 25 items each sent to the server for processing.

Numbers larger than 25 can reduce the overall processing time somewhat, but if the number is too large the server script will time out before completing its work. You can try 100, but if you have problems reducing this value may resolve them.

You might also consider disabling MLA’s where-used reporting while you’re doing this work; it will make the Media/Assistant submenu table load faster. Go to the Settings/Media Library Assistant General tab and scroll down to the “Where-used Reporting” section. Change the dropdown controls to “Disabled”, then scroll to the bottom of the screen and click “Save Changes” to record your new settings. You can re-enable the reporting options later if you need the information they provide.

Good luck with your project. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have problems or further questions regarding the Media/Assistant settings. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

Oh, dear. So I tried to change the items per page in the “screen options” at the top of the page on assistant view, and now… now the page won’t even show up! When I choose assistant, I now get 404 Page Not Found error! How do I fix this and get the default screen option back?! Eek!

    Well, that’s unsettling!

The first thing to try is simply logging out, closing the browser and starting over. Does that help?

The “brute force” answer is to use PHPMyAdmin or another database utility to remove the “mla_entries_per_page” row from the usermeta table. That will restore the default value of ten entries per page. Do you have the access and skills to give that a try?

Is the Media/Assistant screen the only problem? Can you still get to the Settings/Media Library Assistant screen?

If all else fails I can give you a small custom plugin to do the reset for you. Let me know how the above suggestions work for you.

Okay, so I tried using a new browser, didn’t work.
I tried deactivating, then reactivating all plugins, didn’t work.
I tried logging in then out, nope.

The Media/Assistant screen IS the only problem. I CAN still get to Settings/Media Library Assistant screen.

Do I know a lick about PHPMyAdmin? That would be a “no.” But, there’s no giving up because your plugin is awesome, and I NEED it. So, rolls up sleeves… my sleeves led me to a phone, who dialed technical support, and they did as you said on the backend. We changed it to 100, and now we’re good to go! Thank you!

Thanks for your update with the good news, and for your persistence in getting the help you needed to resolve the problem. Thanks as well for the positive feedback on the plugin’s value.

I could not reproduce your symptoms and I can’t explain why the problem, but all’s well that ends well.

If there’s anything else I can do to help you get the most out of MLA, let me know.
