Assign categories to Uploaded Files?

I am using “Custom Upload Dir” to create directories for each logged in user. Files uploaded via VFB are properly redirected to the users folder. I would like to be able to assign categories to each upload form field to further categorize an upload into a subfolder under their user folder. For example, user1 logs in, clicks on Upload Field A, uploads a file, a category is automatically assigned to any uploaded file from Upload Field A, resulting in a //user_folder/category1/”uploaded file A.”

I’m new at this, so forgive me if this is a stupid question!
