Asset Cleanup has stopped working with the Gutenberg block editor. If I edit a page using the classic editor I get the list of assets, but when using the block editor I get the spinning wheel and nothing ever comes up on any of my pages.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I am also getting this same issue on both sites I use Asset Cleanup Pro on. Post / page edit is unusable for me while the plugin is active.

@kookook Please re-download the Pro version (v1.1.6.8) and let me know if you still have this issue.

@tcordova Can you please check the browser’s console while the assets are fetched? There are a few AJAX calls that are made. I have a suspicion there are some errors printing there, perhaps from another plugin that is interfering with Asset CleanUp, you never know.

In my latest tests from the past week, both the Lite and Pro versions have been working fine with the Gutenberg editor. The only issue was that with the Pro version, there was a filter that sometimes was causing calls to undefied functions because of the way the theme was built (e.g. not using function_exists()), but that has been fixed.

Thank you for your reply Gabe – Where abouts can I download a new pro version from?

In the meantime removed the Pro version and downloaded the lite version and I am still getting the same problem if that is any help.

    Thanks again.

Morning guys, Found it – looks like a fresh upload of Version 1.1.6.8 pro did fix things for both of my sites Gabe! – However, on both sites the Gutenberg page / post editor is a fair bit slower / laggy than it was before this issue started.

For me it was removing the Stackable blocks editor. Removing that fixed the problem

Hmmm actually I take that back once I cleared the cache and the problem still persists for me once re uploading a fresh download of Pro version v1.1.6.8.

I have tried troubleshooting my other plugins etc but as long as Asset Cleaner Pro is active Gutenberg is almost impossible to use on my larger pages (takes 2 – 5 minutes to load then very laggy once loaded).

I went through the painful process of deactivating all my plugins and then deactivating them one by one. That’s how I determined the stackable blocks plugin was to blame.

@tcordova @kookook my apologies for not getting back to you sooner! I’ve made extensive tests with “Stackable – Page Builder Gutenberg Blocks” plugin and on my end, everything worked fine. Perhaps there was something about the theme you were using, who knows. I’m happy to know that you solved this somehow.

However, on both sites the Gutenberg page / post editor is a fair bit slower / laggy than it was before this issue started.

If you have lots of things there, the page will become large and even bulkier with Asset CleanUp Pro and unless there are any JavaScript errors in the console (right-click, “Inspect” in Google Chrome), the list of CSS/JS should load fine. I never had any problems with that whenever the Gutenberg editor was on.

However, I agree that issues happen with some WP setups and after a few people mentioned about this, I’m seriously considering to implement a separated (optional to use) “Edit page” where only the title and some basic information about the post is shown and the CSS/JS list from Asset CleanUp, instead of the classical edit page within the Dashboard where all the meta boxes, content and other things are loaded and various AJAX calls are made that are irrelevant for Asset CleanUp, which lead to extra resources. This is suitable for large websites with lots of content and plugins.

I hope what I mentioned makes sense. Let me know if it doesn’t! In short, show only the Asset CleanUp metaboxes in a dedicated edit page area.
