• I am a long-time user and customizer of all the twenty-xxxx themes. I have always used child themes for my customizations. I have experimented quite a bit with the twenty twenty-three theme (love it!), but my questions are about how to keep these during a theme update without using a child theme:

    • Custom font
    • Custom colors added to the palette

  • It depends how you made the changes. If you made changes by editing theme files directly then those changes will be lost because updating a theme replaces all its files on update. Any changes made using the site editing interface are saved to the database, so they will not be lost.

That is good to know for. But because I would need to alter theme.json to add a custom font, is there a way to accomplish this without losing it during a theme update?
