  • Hi Shapeshifter 3,

Yes on all three, although this isn’t a replacement for the old link functionalty in WP pre 3.5 it’s suitable as a redirection manager. And yes on your last question.

Hope this helps, feel free to install and have a play around.

    jkohlbach,

Thanks for your previous reply 2 months ago. I didn’t have time to try this plugin out, but now I do. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

AFTER reading this post on WP Tavern: http://wptavern.com/new-plugin-detects-shared-terms-in-wordpress-ahead-of-taxonomy-term-splitting-in-4-2 , I installed this recommmended plugin: https://github.com/jjeaton/wp-find-shared-terms for delayed testing of my main, 3-year old website.

I THEN, uninstalled 3 long-held plugins from that site:
    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-wp-render-blogroll-links-custom-order?replies=3 (no longer available) ,
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/link-manager/
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/hierarchical-link-categories/ .

NEXT, I disabled this plugin to test out whether I actually need it:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/quick-pagepost-redirect-plugin/ .

NEXT, I installed the ThirstyAffiliates Plugin, and the ThirstyAffiliates for FooGallery extension.

LASTLY, I ran the WP Find Shared Terms plugin and found the following:
Term Taxonomy ID Term ID Name Taxonomy # of posts
    126 20 All Link Categories 0
    20 20 All Categories 0

Long ago, one of my uninstalled plugins created the “All” name for both Link Categories and Post Categories and used the same Term ID#. WordPress will not let me delete either. Because of these old shared terms, the attempted deletion of the old Link Manager will not actually complete. It remains in the Admin Panel of my site. Any suggestions on how to fix this? What I’m trying to do is clean out all old Taxonomy Terms and IDs from my database, BEFORE I start adding affiliated links and categories to your plugin. I want to avoid any possible term conflicts in the future.

    Hi Shapeshifter 3,

I would advise deleting that “All” term altogether and creating new terms with unique names.

There is a bug in the current version of WP were terms must be unique, it’s currently being fixed, but I’m not sure what version it’s meant to be in:

    https://core.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/31418

After that you should be able to delete the in-built Link manager.

    Cheers,
    Josh

    jkohlbach,

I kind of jumped-the-gun yesterday by installed this plugin someone else recommended to me https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-sweep/ and it DID delete the “All” term (as far as I can tell). The problem is, even though the original Link Manager Plugin is uninstalled, the left WordPress Admin Dashboard Panel still shows Links: All Links, Add New, Link Categories.

It’s weird…maybe some other plugin I currently use causes this:

Relevanssi? Google XML Sitemaps? Maybe something else?

Don’t know…I work on it further. I’m also using the WordPress 4.2 alpha Nightly Build. Maybe that’s causing the issue.

    Thanks so far.

If this site is in production I’d definitely recommend switching to the stable branch instead of trunk. There’s no guarantees that nightly build will even compile (though they do their best and 99% of the time it does).

Now that you’ve done the WP-Sweep, try reinstalling 4.1.1 (goto Dashboard->Upgrades and you can have it reinstall the files).

Hopefully that will do it 🙂

    Cheers,
    Josh
