• Hi all i finally have a pretty good handle on things and have made a bunch of changes to my current theme.
    • I just noticed that theres a new WP version available
    • Will the Update / Upgrade pose any risks?

    * My main concern is damaging my theme – or harming my site.
do i need to worry about this if the theme that im using is not included in the original WP installation?
it is a theme that i dowloaded and installed after WP was installed.

Will the Update / Upgrade pose any risks?

I manually updated my blog to 3.0.2 today, no issue whatsoever!

    That does not guaranty.

But If you follow WordPress documentation and instructions/recommendations of your server, etc., there should not be any issue.

so if i connect to the server via FTP and copy everything in there to a folder on my desktop – Is that considered a back-up?
cause i actually did that without even knowing weather or not that was the way.
did you create a back up of your own?
    if so – how?
    thanks for chiming in

Copying the files is one thing, but you should also copy the database.

There are instructions on what/how to backup in this wiki article: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

im going back&forth btwn tabs and just finished a session with Dreamhost support to confirm that they provide a way of backing up …
(as stated in the instructions in that link)
so yes confirmed and initiated the back up.
    heres what i got …..
“Your ENTIRE account is now scheduled to be backed up! This can take a while since you may have a lot of data to archive, however we will send you an email once it finishes with instructions for downloading your backed up-data!
Your account backup is currently scheduled and may take as long as several days. You will be emailed when it finishes!”
-So am i safe now or do i still have to do i tmanually?
