Support » Networking WordPress » Archiving multiple site on a Multisite install

  • Hello,
I work for a large company that has a Multisite WordPress install. They want to first archive about 40 sites, before any final deletion of said sites. Since it’s a tad bit more then a few sites, is there an easy way to archive multiple sites? Currently we are on 4.0.1 but in amonth will upgrade to 4.1.1

If so, once archived, is there a way to delete multiple sites? (after a “cooling off” period, of course).

    Thanks for your time,

  • Pruning old accounts is a pain.

“Archive” “Deactivate” are one click actions with a confirmation click or two at Dashboard->Network->Sites. They are not “bulk actions” like when flagging spam blogs.

As for a cooling off period, there is no built in cron function to automagically delete blogs after a while (say like unactivated user signups) once flagged archived or deactivated, they’ll stay that way till you manually revisit Network->Sites and click delete yourself (Delete is also a bulk action, though, so you’ll be saving a handful of clicks there).

If you archive or deactivate, you may want a more fancy-shmancy landing page message:

Archive doesn’t really do much to boot.
