Support » Installing WordPress » Archive not working right after upgrade

  • First I installed WP with cPanel. Something didn’t work right so I had to get 2nd level tech support to fix the install. We got that working but then the upgrade wouldn’t work with cpanel.. So I had tech support see what they could do to either fix or upgrade for me… Now there seems to be a problem with the archive on the new version. When you click on last month, you get a 404 error.

The blog is on … If you click on the previous month, you’ll see the error.

What I need to know is how to fix this problem. When you click on the archives, the URL shows as … etc… however I don’t see that folder on the server. It seems that it got wiped…but when you log into the admin panel, you can still see all the posts there.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

    Please advise.

    Thank you.

  • I figured it out… After the upgrade, apparently it started looking for the .htaccess file for rewrites… Once that was added it started working. The only problem with this is that I had to give it full permissions for it to work. If I change the permissions back to 644 then I get this message in the permalinks section.

If your .htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t so these are the mod_rewrite rules you should have in your .htaccess file. Click in the field and press CTRL + a to select all.

It continues to show this same message with 666 or 755 permissions…but it goes away if I change to 777.

I have the same version of WP on another IP (same hosting service)… it’s .htaccess file is set to 644 and works fine…

If you could tell me why this is, and how to I can keep this working without the full open permission, I would appreciate it.
