• The standard WordPress Archive widget displays more than the month selected. I contacted my theme developer and they told me that they use the standard WordPress Archive behavior and I should post here for assistance, since it is not a theme issue.

Here are the results of my initial analysis:

October 2013 (link) = October 2013 posts are displayed.

September 2013 (link) = September 2013 and August 2013 posts are displayed in this order.

    August 2013 (link) = August 2013, September 2013, August 2013, July 2013, June 2013, May 2013, April 2013, March 2013, October 2012, September 2012, August 2012, July 2012, June 2012, April 2012, February 2012, January 2012, November 2003, September 2003, April 2002, and June 1990 posts are displayed in this order.

July 2013 (link) = July 2013 posts are displayed.

June 2013 (link) = June 2013 posts are displayed.

    May 2013 (link) = May 2013, September 2013, August 2013, July 2013, June 2013, May 2013, April 2013, March 2013, October 2012, September 2012, August 2012, July 2012, June 2012, April 2012, February 2012, January 2012, November 2003, September 2003, April 2002, and June 1990 posts are displayed in this order.

Since the issue exists on multiple months, this is what leads me to the assumption that it is using the edited date(s) as part of the selection criteria for the monthly archives, rather than the original post date.

This behavior can be seen on http://libertycommons.info, click the plus sign on the right to display archives, click the plus sign at the bottom of the page to load more posts.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior?

  • Do you have the same problem using the default theme with ALL plugins deactivated?

I am new to WordPress, so I am assuming by ‘default theme’ you mean Twenty Thirteen. If so, I activated the Twenty Thirteen theme and activated the Archive widget with all plugins turned on (rather than off as recommended).

The results were fine and the behavior was as expected, whereas each month only showed the selected month.

Therefore, is it fair to conclude that the theme is a factor?

First try switching back to your theme without any plugins to see if any of them might be causing the problems. If not, yes, that would indicate a theme-specific problem.

Okay, switching back to the purchased theme and turning all plugin expect theirs off, the problem exists where it shows multiple months rather than just one. I will follow-up with the theme developer.

Thank you so much for your assistance in diagnosing this issue.
