By default, events should be removed from the events list as they become past events. Is this not happening for you?

This would be happening as you mentioned, but we have them set to not drop off automatically, since we need to show the entire year’s events (even if they have passed). We would like to be able to archive them after the year has ended. Even if that is a manual process. I apologize for not being more clear.

That’s something you could do by displaying your events list with a shortcode like this:
[events_list year="2016"]
The only manual updating you’d need to do is to change the year when needed.
