You are right, quick start is not very intuitive. We are working on providing more of a tutorial than a concept introduction.

Yes, entities must have a unique key. That’s not part of the quick guide because it is an API rule. There are more than 300 API rules enforced by WP App Studio plugin. The plugin checks your app against those rules before sending it for generation.

The platform is very flexible. It does not force you to use any feature in your apps:

Can the WP App Studio make plug’s that work on the regular web site without having to be logged in?
Yes, if you do not create any permissions. It means your app’s content is open to public. See the plugins we published in the repository; Issue Manager and WP Ticket.
These two plugins do not use any custom roles so the content created can be accessed by anybody. Download the app signatures from our demo site to see how they are designed.

if you have to be logged in, can it be done without having to use the dashboard?
The dashboard like any other feature in the API is optional. If you do not create any dashboard widgets or publish them to your app dashboard , the platform does not create one.

In WPAS, you decide which features you would like to provide to your app users. It helps you create different editions of your plugins.
