Apply no index to media – attachment?

Hi there, brand new user here. Loving the plugin so far!
One question: I previously had enabled no index for Media – attachment, in your settings.
I now enabled Origin in your Extension Manager, which I believe will handle forwarding those attachment pages.
My question: does this mean I should go ahead and allow indexing of Media – attachment? I’m just a bit confused about how the two settings work together. One setting from the core plugin and one from Origin.

I recommend keeping that noindex-checkbox enabled; Origin and noindex operate exclusively, serve different purposes, but can achieve the same goal (not having attachment pages indexable) through different means (redirect header vs. robots metadata).
In your case, the noindex toggle serves no purpose. But, it’s best to leave it enabled in case you no longer use Origin.
Here’s the gist of it:
- When you apply noindex to any page, TSF will urge search engines not to index the page, and TSF will also remove the page from the sitemap†.
- The Origin extension redirects any attachment page to its parent page or otherwise to the containing attachment file. This means that the noindex output can never be read‡.
- TSF does not modify the indexability of attachments themselves. With TSF, attachments will always be indexable unless you manually block that via robots.txt.
- If somehow you can not use the Origin extension for a while, the noindex toggle serves as a redundant fallback.
† For now, attachment pages aren’t in either of the sitemaps of WordPress or TSF.
