    Hi,

We are in Canada and we have to apply Discount coupons after taxes. How can we do that?

  • Hi @vgstef

    Thanks for reaching out!

Firstly, I apologize for the delayed response.

Can you please share how coupons are added to your site? If you are referring to the nuilt-in Coupon Management here, kindly be informed that coupons are applied to the product price before tax is calculated. To make sure taxes are then calculated correctly due to rounding, we need to split the discount across all items in the cart rather than remove an amount from the total.

You can find more information about that here: https://woocommerce.com/document/coupon-management/?quid=e8a90fb6382531df201a625dc22f222d#how-do-coupons-affect-tax-calculations

Otherwise, if this was added thru a third-party plugin or a custom code, it would be best to reach out to the developers for further assistance here.

    Thanks!

    Hi Xue!

Thanks for the reply! Yes, we use the built-in coupon management.

Here in Canada (Quebec) we legally have to remove the discount/coupon after taxes have been applied on the items.

That’s why I’m looking for a way to apply the coupon on the total (after tax and shipping have been added).

Could it be possible to add this option for coupons, so we can choose to apply coupon before or after taxes? I’m sure there a many other users in Canada that would benefit from such an option.

    Hello @vgstef,

Here in Canada (Quebec) we legally have to remove the discount/coupon after taxes have been applied on the items.

I understand this is a legal concern for you, I found this plugin in our official store for added functionality to coupons and according to the documentation, the discount will be applied to the whole amount with taxes and everything.

All extensions sold on our official store come with email support and a 30-day refund window.

Could it be possible to add this option for coupons, so we can choose to apply coupon before or after taxes? I’m sure there a many other users in Canada that would benefit from such an option.

WooCommerce is a free and open-source project, meaning anyone can contribute to it with suggestions/code.

You can open a GitHub “issues” report from here, they are not limited to bugs you can make suggestions as well.

    Hope this helps!
