Support » Plugin: Payment Plugins Braintree For WooCommerce » Apple Pay – Staging Issues

    Hi there,

First off, thanks for developing this Braintree payment solution for WooCommerce.

I was trying to get Apple Pay setup on staging as a sandbox environment and ran into an issue where we are receiving following WooCommerce notice after clicking the Apple Pay button on checkout:

There was an error processing your payment. Reason: Cannot determine payment method.

Upon searching I found this topic – https://wordpress.org/support/topic/apple-pay-getting-error-as-cannot-determine-payment-method/ – so I went ahead and deactivated everything but WooCommerce and the Braintree plugin as well as switched the theme to Storefront.

The issue still persists, and the Apple Pay wallet never pops up.

I have also re-setup Apple Pay on Braintree from scratch according to the documentation here – https://docs.paymentplugins.com/wc-braintree/config/#/braintree_applepay

It also does not appear on Cart / Product Pages / or Top of Checkout with these options enabled, if that is useful information in finding the cause?

I can provide the barebones staging environment (WooCommerce + Braintree + Storefront) link via email.

Any help, advice or direction here would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi @domnusca,

Thank you for reaching out and providing those details. The fact that the Apple wallet is not opening tells me there is an issue with the click event assigned to the Apple Pay button. The way it’s supposed to work is when you click the Apple Pay button an event is triggered which then signals the wallet to open.

Have you made any changes to the Apple Pay button template? For example if you changed the class name associated with the button HTML that could cause an issue with the event.

    Kind regards,

Hi there @mrclayton, thanks for getting back to me.

So in order to pinpoint the issue I disabled our own theme and replaced with Storefront which is now running with zero customizations.

I also disabled all other plugins except this one and of course WooCommerce, so this is a stock setup with zero modifications.

    Active Theme
Storefront [2.5.3], downloaded from WP.org repository
Has no customizations on it at all, stock install.

    Active Plugins
    WooCommerce [3.71]
    Braintree For WooCommerce [3.0.7]

    Hi @domnusca,

Can you share the url of the staging site so I can take a look? If you want, reach out to our support center within the plugin and you can provide those details.

    Hi @mrclayton

I’m trying to locate the support center within the plugin and cannot find it. Can I email support@paymentplugins.com ?

    @domnusca,

Yes that email will work. The support center help link is on all the Braintree Settings pages within the WordPress admin.
