Appearance is suddenly missing

    Hello Janis Elsts,

    I’m not sure where to ask about this problem, so I’d really appreciate your advice.

    I lost my whole “appearance” menu from sidebar. It showed fine until last night. I was doing regular updates as usual and I didn’t do anything special as far as remember. (I may have upgraded Admin Menu Editor yesterday. ) I also use User Role Editor.

    I am the administrator on the website and should access to everything. If I type wp-admin/theme-editor.php or wp-admin/widgets.php directly in the address bar, I can still access pages like widgets and theme editor.

    I was wondering if there`s a way I could bring back “appearance” on my menu.

    First of all, check if the problem has something to do with Admin Menu Editor by temporarily deactivating it. This will disable all admin menu customizations made by the plugin.

    If the menu reappears, that means there’s something wrong with your AME configuration. Reactivate it, go to Settings -> Menu Editor and make sure the “Required capability” settings for “Appearance” and its submenus are correct. Try resetting them to default.

    On the other hand, if “Appearance” is still missing even with AME inactive, it was probably hidden by a different plugin.

    Having a similar problem. I have the appearance menu set to show up for the editor role. It shows up fine for admins, but not editors.

    I have double-checked all the settings and all seem to be ok. This problem seems to have started after I upgraded to 3.7 last week.

    meccub, are you using the free version or the Pro version? The free version does not have the ability to enable menus for roles don’t already have access to them. In other words, it can restrict menu access (hide menus), but it can’t make it more permissive.
