Appearance Editor - updating php file but changes not reflected on site (5 posts)

I'm using the Twenty Ten theme. When I login and edit the sidebar.php page using the Appearance/Editor page all seems ok, The timestamp on the physical file (\wp-content\themes\twentyten\sidebar.php) changes.

When I view the site, the changes are not there.

I'm removing the meta, login links etc. I've done the same thing before on another site.

    Any ideas?

The first thing I would try is clearing your browser's cache and then reloading the page again.

    Thanks Triplanetary.

I've tried that. I also tried a different browser which I knew had never accessed the site before.

I should say, I've got two instances of WordPress on the server on two domains. I've edited the first instance no problem. I just can't seem to do the same edits to the second one.

Also, if I edit any page other than sidebar.php (e.g. footer.php) then all is ok and I can see the changes.

Do you currently have an Widgets assigned to the TwentyTen dynamic sidebar, via Dashboard -> Appearance -> Widgets?

If so, then the changes you're making in sidebar.php will not be visible, because that content only outputs if the sidebar is inactive (that is, if you have no Widgets assigned to it).

That makes sense. And it fixed the problem!

    Many thanks.
