[UPDATE] No warning of insufficient memory/time-out

    [UPDATE] Okay, so evidently, the issue causing all the update crashing was due to insufficient memory and too short PHP time-out on my webhost. (Though, to be fair, no other plugin has had a problem updating with that amount of memory or time.) So, I am not giving WooCommerce five stars because the plugin should have alerted me that I didn’t have enough memory/time to run it smoothly.

    To avoid any conflicts and problems, I built an ecommerce site using stock WP everything: No weird plugins, no fancy themes, no nothing. Yet, the last FOUR times this plugin has tried to update itself, it has succeeded only in crashing my entire site. (I stopped auto-updating, and undated the plugin manually, but with the same outcome: Total crash. The response to people who comment about the problem is always the same. “Manually replace the WooCommerce directory.” Cool, cool, cool. Super convenient. Thanks a lot. Foolishly, I assumed that, since WooCommerce was made by the same company as WP, I wouldn’t have these issues CONSTANTLY. But apparently, I was wrong. Do they not test these releases? I mean, come on, this is a real problem.

    Hi there,

    Sorry to hear that site crashed while updating the plugin and you had to manually replace the WooCommerce directory via SFTP.

    I am not seeing any support requests on your account created in WordPress.org/WooCommerce forums about this issue.

    Can you please share more information about your setup so we can work together and solve the issue you are facing with updates on your end?

    • Could you share a copy of your site’s System Status Report with us? You’ll find it at the top of the page under WooCommerce > Status > Get system report > Copy for support (after you scroll down a bit). Paste the result here in your reply.
    • Can you please let us know which versions of WooCommerce your site crashed while updating?

    I am asking because we haven’t had such reports from merchants about crashing sites during the updates.

    Happy to help. Funny story, updating to version 7 DIDN’T crash my site, but it still failed due to a time-out (progress, I guess). I manually updated the files again, and it asked to update the DB, which it did. Now, it appears to be working again. So, yay?

    Glad to hear that you were able to update the plugin!

    I see you mentioned the update failed due to a timeout issue. On reviewing your WooCommerce System Status Report, I see that the PHP time limit is set to 120 which is very less.

    This time is the amount of time in seconds that your site spends on a single operation before timing out.

    Please contact your host and ask them to increase the PHP time limit of your site to 300 or more such that you do not face these issues in the future.

    Please note that this isn’t a WooCommerce issue, this issue occurred because the PHP time limit of your site is set to very less by your host.

    Since this issue is not from WooCommerce. Can you please contact your host and then update your review, please?
