Support » Plugin: Insert Special Characters » Apostrophes and quotation marks?

  • Hello!
I love your plugin, though I wish it weren’t necessary.. this should really be a default part of the block editor!
Question, though. When I try to insert an apostrophe I am given this character — ❜ — rather than the expected — ’ –. The same goes for the double quotation marks — ❞ — instead of — ” —
Can this be fixed? Or is this a problem with my setup?
Also, just out of curiosity, what does it take to add characters to your plugin? I realize adding each and every Unicode character would be overkill, but I’m just curious what’s reasonably doable. I saw another poster request ⅓ — I use a number of other fractions as well and would kill to see the ones listed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_Forms 🙂
    Thanks!
    Ben

@lukobe for the apostophe’s you mentioned, are those note already available as keys on your keyboard? If not (e.g., you’re not using a “US keyboard” set up), then if you could share the unicode values for those then I can get them added into the plugin.

In terms of adding new characters, I have to work with a separate character library and get them added there first and then update Insert Special Characters to the new library version. It’s mostly a manually intensive process and something that takes dedicated time to work though, but otherwise not super technically complex.

In terms of the additional number types, if there are specific ones to add then I can work on those as well. Here’s the GitHub issue were I’m tracking the next batch of characters that I’m planning to work on adding to the plugin (currently set for Music, Games, and Emoji).

    Thanks! The unicode values for the punctuation are U+2018 ; U+2019 ; U+201C ; U+201D

And actually, now that I look at it, you already have a bunch of fractions in the system — https://imgur.com/a/noXsHvl — I think the most useful additions would probably be ⅐, ⅑, and ⅒, or U+2150 ; U+2151 ; and U+2152.

    Thank you!!
