I maintain the website for a university, and a few hours ago the Instagram Feed widget on my site suddenly stopped working. When I try to request the Instagram API directly, I’m getting a 429 error saying that I was at ~250 requests in the past hour, out of a max of 200. I used a token I’d generated from a test account and that restored functionality, but within 30 minutes or so it had also burned through the cap and was at ~300 requests in the past hour.

Doing a bit of digging, it looks like every time I load the page on my site with the widget, it’s making an API query that counts against the cap. I can put the widget on my internal test site and things work fine, but the second I deploy it to production my rate limit gets eaten up. Is it expected that each pageload maps to one request against the API limiter?

    Hey porchjm,

Instagram has silently changed the API request limit to 200 (it used to be much higher). We are working on a caching system that will fix this problem. It should be available within a few days if not sooner. I’ll let you know when the update is available for download! Sorry for the inconvenience in the mean time.

Hello! Nice to hear you are working on this problem. What is bad that we are using this plugin on most of our websites with single API..
Many “thanks” to Instagram developers :(((

In case you were wondering. The latest versions of the plugin contain a caching system to help with this issue. I hope you’re having a good weekend!
