 * I see this has been asked before, but couldn’t find the answer. I am setting 
   up a self-hosted (GoDaddy) blog site and would like an api for using Akismet.
 * I did not receive one in the Welcome email(s), and there is not one listed on
   my Profile page.
 * Thanks for any help you can give me.

 * You have to sign up for a free account at WordPress.com to get the api key. (
   you don’t have to have a blog there, just an account)

 * Thank you, that worked.
 * With two logins, two passwords, and two emails from WordPress during the process
   of downloading software and setting up the blog, I guess I thought I already 
   had all the accounts I needed.
