    Hello,

We’re getting this error on a locally developed site:

REQUEST_DENIED: API keys with referer restrictions cannot be used with this API.

Does this mean we need to create a new api key that has no restrictions on use? That seems a tad dangerous given that we also got an email recently from Google saying they will be introducing a new pricing platform for maps api use soon…

That’s the first report I’ve seen of this error response. They are making major changes and we’re looking into it as much as possible.

But I also want to let you know that we are in the middle of totally revamping how we do Business Reviews as a whole. If you’re interested in learning more about what we’ve got up our sleeves and maybe doing some beta testing for us, feel free to sign-up here: https://wpbusinessreviews.com

That doesn’t solve this issue today, but the new platform will be far more robust and use all the latest Google APIs as well as other platforms as well.

    Hi @webdevmattcrom,

Thank you for your swift reply. I look forward to seeing the new version of the plugin.

I’m finding Google’s whole api key system to be really messy and confusing at the moment, especially as we look after a lot of sites. If you could provide some extensive documentation with the new version of the plugin I’m sure that would be very much appreciated by a lot of your users.

    Thanks

We do have detailed docs here:
    https://wordimpress.com/documentation/google-places-reviews/creating-your-google-places-api-key/

But the new plugin has an even more simple API implementation and our docs will be very detailed for sure.

    Thanks!
