# API Key Request Error

 * I had an older version of the plugin installed on ~100 sites, which I have been
   systematically replacing. However, after the first couple dozen sites, I have
   started receiving the following error after clicking the “Generate API Key” button:
 * `Sucuri: (1438780136) Register_site: We notice that the IP [REDACTED](http://codex.wordpress.org/REDACTED)
   has already requested the API many times. Wait few hours to request more..`
 * I quit for the day yesterday at 2pm, and started up again today at 9am, yet am
   still encountering the issue. Just how many API keys can be requested in a given
   period, and how long should I expect to wait until this block is cleared?

 * Evidently, only 40 requests are allowed within a 24 hour timeframe. I contacted
   Sucuri support, and they removed the ban on my IP.

   one of my co-workers pointed me to this ticket and I was going to say that we
   can not change the validations to allow more requests _(for security reasons)_,
   but since you are one of our premium clients I suppose they increased the limit
   for your IP address without hesitation.
 * By the way, this goes for you and every Sucuri client [1]. The support for issues
   related with the Sucuri WordPress plugin are resolved in a different time frame
   for premium and regular users. You may prefer to keep posting in the internal
   ticket system [2] rather than in the public WordPress forums, you will get faster
   support there.
