The TTFB on your site seems reasonable

Thanks for taking a look Steve. The TTFB seen there is due to the fact the site serves cached files to non-logged in members.
It’s a fair bit slower when serving to logged-in users.
It’s so weird though – doesn’t seem to be all the time.
There were some php updates on the server a couple of nights back, so it could be those – but in general the server is still fast, until it is serving WP pages.
That’s what made me think something in 4.9.2 could be a cause.
I’ve seen a couple of people post that their site was slower after 4.9.2.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I’m not saying there’s some edge case that makes 4.9.2 to blame, but if there is a blame, it’s definitely not anything across the board. So…. time to see if it’s a plugin/theme interaction.
Disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.
If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.
Appreciate that heads-up on the Health Check plugin mate – it’s great.
Yep, I can confirm, it wasn’t 4.9.2 at all.
The MAJOR slowdown was being caused by a plugin called Easy Social Share Buttons.
I deleted it, got rid of all old options and the site is LIGHTNING fast.
Apologies for the red herring on 4.9.2 – all is now good!
