  • How many people consider how their blogs look in IE 5? When I was working on the first look of my website, I tried to make the site look as consistent as possible on all browsers, including IE 5. But I’m not certain that its really worth the time as I think most people use IE 6. Does anyone here use IE 5 or design their sites with considerations for IE 5? Is it worth the effort anymore or do most people use IE 6 now?

    This may be of interest:
And I’m sure there are other sites, both from a pro- and anti- IE pov
(And to answer – no, never)

Saw mine in IE5.5/Win recently[1]. Looked a complete mess, but as I was updating the computer in question and getting as decent a version of IE as exists[2], I wasn’t really concerned.
Given that IE updates are more about system security than about rendering improvements, I have this vague idea that older versions of IE should not be catered for in layouts – if it looks broken, the answer is to update. If anyone has IE5, they likely have bigger problems than some pages looking messy.
[1] Previous version of the layout, but the current one isn’t much different
[2] Insert standard rant about IE here[3]
[3] It’s the indirect cause of much of the hassle in my job[4]
[4] I love removing spyware that less sophisitcated users manage to get all over their machines

I usually have a look at the page in IE5.5 and IE5 and try to make sure no block level elements are stacked atop of each other or overlap each other. I scowl at missing borders, wrong paddings/margins/widths and tweak a bit, but the enthusiasm is limited.

I usually check mine but I don’t let it rule the design though. I just try to make sure things look reasonable.
