I made sure the “anyone can register” box is NOT checked on the WP general settings page – but even so, anyone can register without admin approval!

In case it is relevant, I also edited the registration form to display the password and password confirm fields so that the new user does not have to wait 20 minutes to receive an email with an impossible to remember password.

So far I like this plugin but won’t be able to use it if I can’t monitor registrations. Am I missing something here?

That checkbox is a WordPress setting that handles whether “register” is displayed on the wp-login.php form with a link to wp-login.php?action=register

If you want users to be approved by an administrator, check the box in the plugin’s options for “moderate registration”.

As an aside, if users are having to wait 20 minutes to receive a registration email, you either need a new host or need to configure your email to go through an SMTP server (see the heading “An Easy Solution” on this post: http://b.utler.co/i1)
