PLEASE HELP! I have a site that is running off of a Seal Child theme, and my posts/pages were working fine until this morning. I went in to edit a Custom Post Type, and after editing it and updating, the post page now leads to a “Page Not Found” page on my Sela theme =/ When I make edits to posts/pages, they suddenly no longer are working, too. I tried a few times to create totally new post, and after publishing, when I try to view the post, the same thing happens.

The thing is, these posts show up in the categories they’re listed in. I have a category for blog posts, and these posts show up in the feed perfectly fineā€”the problem occurs when I try clicking on the post to be taken to it’s page. I’m then redirected to the “Oops! This page can’t be found” message.

This happened suddenly, and I have no idea why. Everything was working perfectly yesterday, and I hadn’t made any significant changes to my site since then. It literally just stopped working one second after it was. I’ve seen from the forums that this has happened to many other WordPress users, but never has an explanation been given; all I’ve come across were actual Staff members fixing the sites for the users and telling them so in the forum, not actually explaining what in the world happened.

I’m in need of help quickly, for I run a writing site and the authors and I have a deadline of when to post.

    Thank you!

Do not use the modlook tag to get attention to your topic. That’s considered abusive here and I’ve removed the tag.

My apologies! I did not know this; on the forum threads I found regarding this topic, there were multiple times people posted links that showed how to use the modlock tag to have a staff member look at your post. I had believed that this was a standard thing to do when needing staff-specific help; thank you for informing me, I had no intention of being abusive and will refrain from using the tag in the future.

Assistance is still needed from anyone who can help (from community or staff, it doesn’t matter) and will be much appreciated! Thank you.

    Hi @lattesandstories,

When I click on the link you’ve provided, I get a notification that yours is a members-only site. Exploring the site a bit, I can click on the blog, and access each blog post, even when clicking on its title/headline.

It also appears, (based on the full address you’ve given in your link), that you have a custom permalink structure. This could be either because you’ve set this yourself, or because of a plugin or your theme adding a custom post type. Have you tried going to settings/permalinks and re-saving those settings? If not, can you try this and post again in this topic to let us know if the problem is either resolved, or if the problem is still unresolved?

Hello @arush, thank you for your reply!

I’ve taken the site off of Members Only so you’ll be able to fully view the site. Yes, the blog posts and majority of the pages are fine, it’s just when I got to edit a page/post or create a new one the problem arises. Some of the pages have a custom permalink structure that I’ve set myself, and some are because of a custom post type plugin I’m using; I haven’t had problems from either one when it came to accessing posts until this morning, and it was only after they were edited/newly created.

If you go to this link: http://lattesandsilverprose.com/story-feed/ and click on the first post titled “My NaNo Novel”, you’ll see how it will take you to an “Oops! Nothing found” error. I created this page this morning to test if creating a new page would still show the problem, and it does.

Hmm…okay, this is definitely strange: my dashboard is working fine…except for when I try to access my permalinks settings. The page just doesn’t load; it’s completely blank, no door message or anything :/ All other areas of my WP Admin Dashboard are working fine, though. I’m not sure what’s wrong?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi @lattesandstories,

Can you deactivate all of your plugins, and then see if the edit posts/pages problem still persists? If it doesn’t, reactivate each plugin until the problem reoccurs.

Thanks Amanda, I tried this, as well as rewriting my .htaccess file and resaving the permalinks multiple times :/ Nothing worked. I tested my other custom post type and the regular WP posts and pages, and thankfully those were working fine. So, the problem was just this one custom post type. So I ended up just recreating a totally new CTP to replace the “corrupted” one, tested that, and thankfully it worked! So I’m just going to deactivate the old CTP and use the new one instead.

Didn’t quite resolve what the problem was, but we worked around it. Thank you again for your help @arush!
