• As soon as I installed CleanTalk I got this email:
“Anti-spam by CleanTalk” plugin error on your site All Things Hardwicke Knight:
*** Antispam disabled. Check access key in CleanTalk plugin options.
This is followed by a ‘request number’ – whatever that is.

If ‘CleanTalk plugin options’ live on my site’s dashboard I’m in trouble, because I have been locked out of the site.

I’m getting lots of these ‘plugin error’ emails and lots of notifications of new users on my site – all of them spammers.
Please help. This is frustrating to say the least – and not the way I wanted to spend Christmas Day!

    Hello,

You should get an Access key and fill the key in plugin settings. Please start here,

    https://cleantalk.org/register?platform=wordpress

    Then follow this setup manual,

    https://cleantalk.org/register?platform=wordpress&show_manual=1&hide_email_notice=1

Or simply deactivated plugin Anti-spam by Cleantalk here,

    WordPress backend -> Plugins.

Let me know if you have questions!

Thanks for your reply. Following your instructions I got the access key, but the set-up manual appears to show how to enter it in my own site, and I have been locked out of my site. I’m afraid I didn’t understand your instructions about WordPress backend. Is that on my site’s dashboard too, or is it a separate place.

    You are welcome!

Do you have any error test on locked page? Any way, please follow this,

    1. Connect to website via FTP manager or File manager on hosting panel.

    2. Go to folder,

    WORDPRES_ROOT/wp-content/plugins

    3. Delete folder ‘cleantalk-spam-protect’.

    4. Try login to WordPress dashboard one more time.

    Does it help?

Hi there, thanks so much for your help. I had no idea what I was doing to be honest but with the help of your instructions I found the host’s file management page, identified the plugin and deleted it. Immediately after that, to my amazement, WordPress let me change my password and I was able to login for the first time in four days.
I hope my next attempt at installing an antispam plugin goes a bit more smoothly!
    Thanks again.
