  • I’ve installed and reinstalled WordPress several times now, to no avail. Every time I install it, going to the address I set it up on (www.squelched.com/blog) I get a directory listing instead.

I keep seeing that the solution to this problem is to edit the .htaccess file. Since I am using a new sudirectory that I created for the blog, however, there was no existing .htaccess file. So I created a new one and added DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm to it. Even then, though, all that does to change the site is make my .htaccess file show up on the directory listing.

What am I missing here? I use WinSCP and cPanel. I am also incredibly new to this, and the most basic and condescending explanation would be welcome.

Edit: I am also on a Linux server, if that clears anything up.
