Support » Fixing WordPress » Another Comments Problem, mabye a new WP 3.0 bug?

  • This is now the second time this has happened in the last 2 weeks. I don’t do anything but my settings / discussion settings get changed. The following two settings were changed to being “checked” rather than “unchecked”.

    • An administrator must always approve the comment
    • Users must be registered and logged in to comment

    When this happens I also have to go in and bulk edit all my posts to “allow comments” or enable comments, as they are all disabled.

    Others seem to be having this issue too, is this a new WP 3.0 bug?

    When this first happened I changed all the settings and then deactivated my plugins. After getting bombarded with SPAM I put the few plugins I use back active. Everything seemed fine until about 1-2 weeks later BAM it happened again.

    It is a plugin that lets you automatically update all your posts to turn comments on. Plus there is an “auto” option that apparently automatically keeps it that way. I like it, it’s worked for me so far….

    OK, it happened again.

    Even with this plugin in place: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/extended-comment-options/

    The plugin told me that all comments are turned on. But I had to disable it then reenable it and batch turn them all on again. At least I didn’t have to manually do all of that. So the plugin helps.

    I’ve tried every which way and still every 2-4 weeks this keeps happening.

    “Analytics 3 codes for WordPress” plugin , there is an issue with comments.
    deactivating this plugin resolved the prob in my site.
    (additionally i was unable to trash the comments)

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
