Announcing a Shopping Cart Plug-In for WordPress (6 posts)

In the beginning of 2004 AGIPRODJ was looking to redesign the site that they had. I began to design and build the system from scratch because the open source apps that were available for carts were awful for the most part. About that time, I started playing with WordPress in earnest. I was blown away by how well thought out the API was and what a fantastic job the team had done. You can’t hear this enough… Kudos to the WordPress Team!

During this process, I had one of those eureka moments… “what if every product was a post? Then every product could be a RSS feed and people could talk about the product in line…. A review system on steroids! Using a tool that everyone loves!?

So I started designing a system that would integrate with WordPress. I quickly got in over my head with the PHP, and I hired Michael Calabrese to help me build the system. He would develop the PHP and I would work on design and CSS.

It took us a year of fits and starts and lots of distractions. But finally, last night (Feb 15, 2006), we launched a WordPress site with a shopping cart plug-in.

We will be making the plug-in available to you guys in about a month. It will be released with the same license as WordPress of course. This is its first real deployment and I wanted to have the system be beat on for a bit before we hand it over to you guys. If you are chomping at the bit, and need the plug-in now, email me directly. I’ll be happy to send it to you. We will be hosting it at WordPressCart.org. We will be building documentation and more there.

For now you can check it out at http://www.agiprodj.com. That is a live site, so please don’t submit a quote unless you are looking to buy something. If you want to see screen shots and more, please go to http://www.wordpresscart.org and take a look around.

Thanks for posting. That's a smart WordPress site you made for AGIPRODJ. I look forward to more news on the shopping cart plug-in.

Does this plugin have the ability to assign product options (like if you were selling a hat available in Red/Blue/Green)?

While I like the cart functionality... the catalog seems to be just regular posts.

And the cart (list of selected posts) doesn't have a check out option...

Is there an option for check out that goes to some PayPal or Credit card page??

I looked at your site, but didn't see any screenshots from the "admin" section of your application

I hate to say this, because it's awesome what you've done, but I don't think you can use a domain with "wordpress" in it. If you talked to Matt you might work something out, but I'm pretty sure you can't.

Great work on the plugin, though
