I accidentally posted this question to the wrong forum. I think this, now, is the right one.

Doing searches, it seems like everybody on the internet says it’s impossible to have an animated GIF as a featured photo with WordPress. Well, I have one. Somehow I got a working animated GIF (thumbnail size) as the featured photo for a post.

Animated GIF featured photo: Scroll to bottom of page. You’ll see it and it’s really cool.

If I change the date on the post to today, it top-posts and the featured photo is displayed medium size and it’s also a working animated GIF

Is this some glitch in the theme? I mean, I want to use animated GIFs as featured photos, I just can’t figure out how to do it again. And then too, everybody tells me it’s impossible.

I don’t know what I did to get it working on there. It was a couple years ago.
Can somebody view source on that page and see how I did it? Or something? I’d be willing to work with somebody on this, send screen shots, copy out sections of code, whatever it takes.

I’m viewing the pages in the current version of Firefox 73.0.1 (64-bit)
The website is on a shared server at godaddy.
I’m running a PC on Windows 10 Pro, though I can’t see that would make any difference.

I’d really like some help. Thank you in advance.

actually you can, just set the gif as ‘featured image’ in write post.
but cannot on thumbnail, the wp resize it and the gif will not work anymore.

solution would be go to customizer->homepage featured categoty->layout and style->choose all medium

    like this demo
    http://demo.dezzain.com/

archive or category page use thumbnail too so no go on there.

    Hey Richie:

I moved that post to today’s date so the featured photo is top-posted. Now, you go to my website you’ll see the animated GIF working on the front page. Now click on its category, “Dispatches From Orbit (click For All Dispatches)” and you’ll see the same animated GIF operating in thumbnail size.

“…but cannot on thumbnail, the wp resize it and the gif will not work anymore.”

I don’t know how I managed this but it’s animated in both places and while I don’t remember what I did to do this, I know I have NEVER in my life made a thumbnail size animated GIF but there it is.

I’m going to leave this up top-posted on my site until I hear back from you. I don’t want it there, but I want you to see it. I don’t get any traffic yet anyway. If you use the provided link just go to the “Home” page to see this.

    Thanks in advance.

yeap, the archive paga thumbnail is still using the original size of the featured thumbnail, didn’t resize so it use it there. loading time will suffer tho.

not sure why it didn’t resize tho when upload gif into wp media.

i tried upload few gif and some fail, some good, really not sure. maybe it has to do with the gif width height dimension.

Thanks for taking the time to look at that. If the guy who created the theme can’t figure it out, then I sure as hell won’t be able to. I can live without animated GIFs as featured images.

Maybe you could help me with a couple other issues.

    First issue:
I have a redundant menu on the site. If you go to my index page, you see I have two menus, Primary and Top. Top’s fine. But I have two iterations of the Primary menu. I have Dispatches from Orbit (click for all dispatches) and News & Opinion, (click for all News)

Then under that menu there’s Dispatches from Orbit and News & Opinion, both without the “click for all…”

I don’t need the second menu (the ones without the “click for all…”) additions. The second menu doesn’t appear when you’re on a post, just on the front page.

I’ve tried to get rid of that menu in Appearance>>Customize>>Menus and Appearance>>Menus and nothing I do gets rid of the secondary menu. There doesn’t seem to be anything I can do about it in Categories, either.

I HATE that redundant menu. I just want it to go away.

    Second issue:
What is the default font for this theme? I never picked one, I just started using it. I like the font. I don’t like the font color, though. It’s light gray. I want black text globally throughout my site. At present every time I post something I have to manually select all, and then pick black.

When I go to Appearance>>Customize>>Fonts all the fields are blank. I can go with the default font, but I’d like to know what it is in case I ever change it and then want to change it back.

Under Appearance>>Customize>>Fonts>>Body, there’s “font weight.” I’ve never heard that term before. You’ve got Light, Lighter, Normal, Bold, and then numbers between 100 and 900. Usually with font there’s a pop up box with a grid of colors to choose from, like when I pick the font color in a post. The numbers between 100 and 700 don’t make a lot of difference, and when you use 800 or 900 it’s just like Bold.

I want the text black, not bold because I use bold for emphasis. If everything is bold there IS no emphasis. I want black text like RGB 0-0-0 and I’d like to have that as the default for the whole site. How can I do that without editing style sheets?

But that’s just Body. Then you have Navigation. I don’t know what “navigation” means in this context. Does it mean links, pages, recent posts, category names, what? What exactly changes with this? Experimenting with it, it seems like it only changes Category name fonts.

How do I change the font color on the Home page, the text up to the (more) divider, and how do I change the font color of Recent Posts? I want all text on my website to be the blackest of black, RGB 0-0-0, how do I get that globally on my site?

    Thank you.
