We tried to replicate the issue but were not successful. We tried to access our test/dev website directly via the browser address bar and also via a referral link. In both these instances, the GA dashboard source/medium indicated direct and referral respectively. It seemed to be ok even during the reload.
I just tested it out and noticed that for repeat visitors who had already accepted the cookie in the past, a Google referral is correctly attributed. It’s only for first-time visitors accepting our site cookies for the first time that a Google referral shows up as direct traffic.
