I sent an inquiry to Google because click throughs from my adwords campaing were giving an (not set) message instead of the keyword that clicked through. They responded back suggesting that it could be a problem with the placement of the analytics code, which is set by your plug-in. Here’s what google said:

    Hello There,

Thank you for your inquiry. Hope you are doing well 🙂

I understand you are concerned about the (not set) data you see in the Analytics account. I checked your Analytics account and I in fact see that your Analytics account is able to track these visits but is unable to attribute the source of these clicks.

You can check the screenshot I have attached to see that the clicks are showing up but the visits are not getting attributed correctly.

I checked your website http://therelationshipcenter.us/ and I understand that you are using wordpress for placing your Analytics code. I also see that there are meta tags and jquery scripts under this code. I would suggest that you check with your webmaster and place the code right before the close of the </head> tag so that none of these javascripts/jquery scripts or meta tags affect with the way Analytics is tracking data.

You can take the help of your webmaster and also check if the Analytics code is correctly placed and you can follow the steps mentioned in the following two links. Hope this helps!

    1) http://website-experts.ca/how-to-add-google-analytics-tracking-code-in-wordpress/

    2) http://wpmu.org/add-google-analytics-to-wordpress/

Once you have placed the code correctly, check your Analytics account in 24 hours and see if the data s tracking correctly. This should resolve the issue. Do let me know if you need any further clarification with this or if this is not resolved and I will be happy to assist you 🙂

Awaiting your response. Have a great day ahead 🙂

This is the latest from the folks on google on this issue:

The AdWords data is indeed getting through. However since the code is not correctly placed, Analytics is unable to associate the visit with the correct click from the respective campaigns.

If you check the screenshot, you will see that the clicks data is coming through from your AdWords campaigns. You can reach this report by clicking on reporting >> Advertising >> AdWords >> Campaigns and the “Clicks” tab next to Site Usage.

They are saying that because of where the plug-in places the analytics code it is preventing the keywords associated with the adwords click from coming through.

As an additional note the link to instructions for manually inserting the code is broken: http://yoast.com/wordpress/google-analytics/manual-placement/

were you able to figure out how to resolve this issue?
