@surferking many thanks for your feedback. I do intend to update the plugin to support the latest WordPress version.
To clarify, my plugin is purely a Javascript and CSS plugin and does not perform and server-side operations not use the REST API – this will be another plugin.
Hi @pontetlabs, since writing this, we’ve found it is the Real Cookie Banner plugin that generates this notice.
It somehow keeps it hidden with css, but the panel your plugin creates them makes that visible, even though the message isn’t applicable.
I think it’s bad practice for the way the Real Cookies Plugin works, but perhaps something you can test with it, and see if there’s anything you can do with it?
Hello @surferking
I have been busy completely rewriting the Hide Admin Notices plugin and I now have a beta version available 😊
Could I ask you to check if this version works better for you? You just need to download this ZIP file and upload it via the Plugins page.
Cheers 🍻
@pontetlabs Brilliant work! I just installed to test, and it does solve the above issue, thank you!
I like the new settings page for submitting individual plugin feedback too, very useful!
Luckily, of the hundreds of plugins I use, I’m not seeing any other issues with any other notices with this beta installed, so you have my testing as confirmation it appears safe to release.
I did notice that the new version doesn’t have the same white-box background as “Screen Options” and “Help” panels do.
I also notices that your “Show Notices” tab still shows when “Screen Options” or “Help” panels are opened, whereas they hide each other when opened, so I think you should do the same to avoid double-opening of panels, which then hides the ability to close the others until the “Hide Notices” tab is toggled closed again.
Hope all that helps.
@surferking thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly! I’m reassured that this beta version is working well for you 👍
Re the white background: I’ve never done this but I think it’s a good idea so I’ll add that in.
Re the double opening: yes indeed it should work as you describe so I’ll fix that!
Many thanks again. You’re feedback is much appreciated 🙏
@pontetlabs Thank you for making WordPress a better place and solving one of the biggest annoyances that they should have fixed in core! “Hide Admin Notices” is still the best, most reliable, and user-friendly notifications hiding plugin by far! 🙂
Hi @surferking
I’ve updated the beta with the changes you suggested – could you try it again? Here’s the link again.
Your support is much appreciated!!
@pontetlabs Great stuff! All those fixes work!
Very minor tweak suggestion, perhaps the white-box padding should be 25px top and bottom, to match the left & right padding?
Another very minor suggestion, perhaps just the word “Notices”, instead of the “Show Notices” and “Hide Notices”, to follow the convention of the other tabs. Otherwise, it implies the show/hide state of the panel will be the same when navigating to other pages, which it isn’t.
Other than that, not seeing any conflicts or errors.
Thanks again for your feedback @surferking 👍
Regarding the padding, I don’t think I’ll go as far as that with the top padding because I have to cater for quite a few different situations — such as this situation in this screenshot
And I get what you’re saying about following the convention of the other tabs by having “Notices”, but I don’t think having Show & Hide implies that they are going to persist between pages — the other tabs don’t after all.
Anyway, I can look at these 2 points later on as I get more feedback from other users.
I’ll be pushing a release today so watch this space!
@pontetlabs Good stuff. Sure, I think there’s an amount of personal preference, that’s just mine 🙂
Great stuff either way, still the best implementation for solving this otherwise annoying “feature” of WordPress 🙂
Now resolved with the v2.0 release
