• I am using wp 3.2.1 and cannot login, and when I try to install new plugins I see this under popular tags: “An Unexpected HTTP Error occurred during the API request.”

I also see this on the Admin dashboard where the RSS is from the WordPress news blog “RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: connect() timed out!”

Clearly I am having trouble connecting to the WP API. How can I fix this?

I have tried disabling all plugins and using a default theme and no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Have been searching for a fix for hours. My writers are unable to login (luckily I am logged in already from before this started happening) so I need to have this fixed ASAP so my writers can post.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Have you tried:

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting via Settings -> Permalinks. If this works, then review Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure back up again.

I’m a new wp user and having same kind of problems.

When i’m trying to browse themes in install themes, I get this: “An Unexpected HTTP Error occurred during the API request.”

And I also get this: “RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: :” in the admin dashboard on the WP Blog RSS.

    Any help appreciated, thanks!

@esmi: I have tried all four of the things you mentioned and none worked.

Looking into this more I see I also cannot upgrade plugins from the WP Admin nor can I update re-install WP automatically in the admin.

It looks like your hosts have configured the server’s security so tightly that your site cannot connect to an external site – such as wordpress.org. Your only option is to install plugins manually and upgrade manually.

Is there a way to lower this security?

It was working fine until a week ago, so there must be a way to go back to what I had previously.

Have a word with your hosts about it.

I just downloaded 3.2.1 and did a fresh install today, and this solution does not do anything.

I am having the same problem and have tried near everything to fix it. I have posted with no replies, or help from anyone, my team and I all of which have a reasonable amount of experienced are perpelexed we have tampered with a lot of different files and could use some help everything I find online is 2.6 and none of the stuff that fixes that works for 3.2.1 anyone out there have any more suggestions?
