• New to WordPress. We have a 1and1 Microsoft Developer Package where we are trying to set up a wordpress site as a subdomain (http://compass.stjosephcountymi.org/) from our main site for the purposes of an employee/staff website. They have a one click installer for their Linux package but we already have the Microsoft package because of SQL databases as part of our traditional government site.

I installed the site via FTP and manually created the wp-config.php. When I attempt to add a theme or plugin I get the error “An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.”

I was able to manually add the twentytwelve theme from zip file.

Also, on the Dashboard home, WordPress News has these two errors, which seem like they may be related:

“RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: There are no HTTP transports available which can complete the requested request.”

    and

“RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: 10060: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.”

  • “An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration” is a common error where the host does not allow outgoing http requests to WordPress when checking the RSS feed or for plugin/theme downloads and updates. Talk to 1&1; it’s their issue.
