[an error occurred while processing this directive]

I know this has been addressed before but it didn’t help me figure out how to fix it.
I too moved my site from one host to another.
I did this by copying my public_html to a new server.
I did an export of the mysql database.
I recreated the database on the new server.
Edited my wp-config.php to match the new server.
The folder structure is the same as it was on the old server.
None of my site pages work over and above the front page.I get “[an error occurred while processing this directive]” no matter what link I click.
Any help would be appreciated
Just realized, I am not sure what version of WP I am running.

In my case when I had the error [an error occurred while processing the directive] the issue was a sequence of symbols ‘–#’ inside an html comment. The troublesome comment looked like this: <!––#slider––> (with no spaces inside)
Changing the comment to <!–– #slider––> (with a space between – and #) removed the error.
As far as I know, a server takes ‘–#’ as a part of an SSI directive.
