Thanks for all the great ideas! We definitely have plans to include more customization options. Immediately on our list is to build recommended articles and support for comments.
Guardian has definitely put a lot of manual work to customize their AMP pages to look the way they do. We plan to include a lot of these options as well, but perhaps you’re right in that we can get it out faster by allowing custom CSS inputs.
We just finished ads and analytics support recently, which we felt was really crucial to the plugin. Today we released support for Pages and Custom Post Types, which were also both very highly requested. Next on our list is definitely customizations and adding more dynamic elements to the AMP pages themselves.

Thanks so much for this. After spending over $600 for our developer to tweak AMP to do this, you came along:)
If you have the Related Posts plugin, your related articles will show up in AMP along with the thumbnails.
I do like the menu addition or even if the category or tags were included at the top of the article, but that’s just finicky stuff.
The share buttons are also a big thing as that’s just another thing the Big G. is evaluating sites on.

It can really be a money sink to hire a developer to do this stuff. Not only does AMP enforce tons of new rules, these rules are also constantly evolving as the format grows. You could find yourself bringing said AMP developer back once every couple months to keep things up to date.
With PageFrog we hope to not only help people get onto AMP, but also stay up to date with all the changes AMP is making to their format in these early days. Often times documentations are made available to us developers before they actually go live, so we can build for the changes ahead of time before they affect the web.
We’ve started working on our next version and Related Posts and Share Buttons are both on the list of things we plan to include 🙂

Thanks for replying, it’s awesome that you are going to consider adding these features and are already working on share buttons and related posts.
Personally I can do this stuff myself, but I prefer it when a plugin can do it for me, as they often do it better, or in a way that I can easily manipulate to be better.
So far, the plugin updates look to be coming fast and thick, so you’re doing a great job, the ad launch was certainly more important than this, so I’m glad you did that first.
@gooma2 Thanks for the tip regarding the Related Posts plugin – I will give that a try 🙂 IMO at the moment the disadvantages of not being able to navigate the site outweigh the speed and other performance benefits. I am sure things will develop in the near future though and give website users an improved experience.
once people start seeing how fast the AMP pages load, it will probably catch on pretty quickly.
finally the US is catching up to the rest of the world in internet speed.
