  • hi guys, im new to the web design world and wordpress so please be patient..

its time i put together a semi decent web presence for our film company instead of our url redirecting to our youtube account.

i’ve obviously settled on using wordpress for the framework, but dont know what to do for a theme. i dont have any coding/html/css experience so something pre-made is the way im going to go (but i want it to be customisable)

i do have a few requirements, i’m hoping some people here can point me in the right direction.

    * i want to easily link our youtube and vimeo vids
    * i want something fairly simple in terms of layout (something like shockmansion.com)
    * i would like to be able to show advertising for our sponsors
    * i want to have a picture/thumbnail overlaying the video frame, that when you click the picture the video will play (check out http://theberrics.com/dailyops.php for an example of what i mean)
    * i would like to have a static front page that has a slider that displays a thumbnail of our 6 or so latest videos (an advertising space in the footer would be nice for sponsor logos) as well as a blog

is there any themes out there that could do any of this?

or do i need to use plugins/widgets to achieve what i want?

any help or guidance is greatly appreciated!

  • Maybe you can try WooThemes. They have a lot of different themes to choose from. It’s easy to install and to change a bit. And they’re not that expensive (some of them are even for free!).

thanks for the quick reply.. i’ll check out that link tomorrow and have a proper read, and see if i can find something the suits.

Youtube and vimeo are supported out of the box with WP, just put in the link

Advertising is also simple. You can usually just put html in a text widget to display ads

    ok good to know!

what about the thumbnail over the youtube/vimeo video frame? is that or would that be achievable with a plugin of some description? its just that i’d rather a custom image instead of whatever youtube or vimeo wants to use.

Umm, you may find a theme which supports that

Off hand, I would use a custom field to bring the image in to play…

BUt after that it may require some js or something, but we are getting outside of my expertise here…. just some ideas
