Alternatives to Slow Stattraq?

    I’m using statraq because I really want to lists most popular posts in my sidebar. However, stattraq is a bear and quickly slows down my entire site.

    I could clean out the database every few days, but then what’s the point of having a most popular posts listing if it’s reset every few days.

    I don’t use stattraq for anything else other than the mostwanted plugin, so I’m wondering if:

    1. There is an alternative to stattraq/mostwanted plugin to list most popular posts. Or

    2. Is there away to not record other entries in the database other than post popularity?
