    Hello,

I was trying to use the alternate content feature of the Exit Notifier plug in, but it doesn’t work.

    Here’s what I did:

    01. I modified and saved my alternate content (from my WordPress Settings/Exit Notifier Settings/Alternate Content tab.

    02. I created a URL redirect (via a ‘Button’), pasted “altExitNotifier” in the ‘Extra class name’ field of the button and saved.

Now, when I go to the front end of my site and click on the button, a dialogue box pops up, but it’s not the one with the Alternate Content – but rather the one created from the ‘Content’ tab (i.e. the default one).

I saw that a previous thread (titled “Alternate Contents Doesn’t catch the URL”) indicated there was a bug. Is this bug the cause of my problem?

If not, what am I doing wrong? (Perhaps I’m not adding the class you to my link properly in order to activate the alternate notification box…)

I googled this but couldn’t find anything. THANK YOU in advance for any help.

    Aloha.

    Serge

  • The altExitNotifier class needs to be on the anchor tag I believe. I haven’t tried it on a button yet, but I have tried it on a menu item in the WordPress menu system, and unfortunately when you use the additional classes feature in the WordPress menu system, the class is applied to the list item, not the anchor link. This might be your issue.

Thank you joeshock for your reply, but unfortunately, it didn’t solve my problem. Or at least, what I understood (and tried) from your reply didn’t work…

Can anybody please tell me the basic steps to make ‘Alternate Content’ work once you’ve modified the settings for it in Settings/Exit Nofifier/Alternate Content?

In other words, where do you copy and paste “altExitNotifier” for it to “kick into action”?

The explanation (next to ‘Class to activate alternate content’) simply states: “This will be the class you add to a link to activate the alternate notification box.. But the question is: how do you add a class to a link?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Serge,

Here is how you would add a class to a link:
    <a class="altExitNotifier" href="http://www.example.com">Click me for altExit content</a>

Thank you joeshock, but once again, I simply do not understand what you sent me and/or how to use it.

If I want to redirect to a specific place on a webpage, I need to:
    01. Create an anchor on the row of the page where I want my redirect to go to by going to the ‘Row Settings’ of that specific row and entering a ‘Row ID’ that is unique and valid (e.g. Anchor_Example)
    02. Go to the URL settings of my button, text, etc. that will be redirecting and assign the page URL followed by the anchor (e.g. https://websitename.com/example_page/#Anchor_Example) in the ‘URL (link)’ box.

Is it possible for you (joeshock) or someone else (e.g. Curtis V. Schleich (@cvscvstechcom)) to break down the steps of how to use Alternate Content in a similar “step-by-step” fashion?

    Thank you in advance.

    Serge

Ps. Is there a user manual for Exit Notifier? How can one go about learning how to use the plugin?

    Serge,

It might be a good idea to share screenshots and a link to your unique situation to help understand exactly what you’re trying to accomplish, then your code can be reviewed.

Once again, thank you for your answer.

How can someone attach screenshots on a thread like this one? I do no see an attachment window or function, only “Notify me of follow-up replies via email”, “Reply and mark as resolved” and “Submit”.

Back to my last two questions: Is there a user manual for Exit Notifier? How can one go about learning how to use the Exit Notifier plugin?

This would save me/us having to go back and forth.

    Serge

    You’re welcome.

Good point. You will probably have to upload screenshots to Google Drive or another server, then share a link here.

Re: user manual, I’m not the plugin author, only a user of the plugin, but I found it quite intuitive to read the plugin settings and understand. Not sure there is a manual, but glad to help if you share some more information.

Can you share the link to the website you’re working on and the name or text on the button you’re trying to use to trigger the altExitNotifier content?

@sergemarcil, So sorry to not be available more quickly. I try to stay on top of these messages, but my paid work has my time monopolized right now.

@joeshock, Thanks so much for stepping in to help out. And thanks for the generous review as well. It is much appreciated.

@sergemarcil, you will see an email address for me at the bottom of each page in Exit Notifier Settings. There we can communicate more directly. I’m guessing from your communication with @joeshock that you are using Divi or something like it and allowing it to apply the class for you. In that case the class, as @joeshock mentioned above, is applied to a containing tag and not the <a> tag itself, which is why it doesn’t work. If you want to in the email, please send me the URL of the page and a description of the link that’s not working and I’ll be glad to take a look.

There is not exactly a manual, but I’ll be glad to explain the features you have questions about. Some of the features assume familiarity with HTML and CCS at a medium to advanced level.
