Support » Plugin: Best Image Gallery & Responsive Photo Gallery - FooGallery » Alt text not showing in Pinterest

    Hi,

I have the latest free Foo Galleries plugin, plus the old Foo Video extension.

When I pin any of my images to Pinterest (using various Pinterest share buttons), the ALT tag is not included with the image. I can see this when I edit the pin in Pinterest. I have set the ALT text for each image in the media library.

I have seen other ALT text issues being reported, but I thought that had been fixed with the newer versions.

    Thanks for any insight!

    Hi @nancyinpink,

I have checked the images in your gallery at https://nancyanneharbord.com/ and they have alt text as shown in the screenshot: https://monosnap.com/file/Omyb8RYrrqfLAnKNoVDv8eT38yqPeR.

Regarding Foovideo, it was fully incorporated into FooGallery Pro over a year ago and is no longer available as a separate product. Furthermore, the Foovideo extension also does not work well with Foogallery pro and causes some errors. To troubleshoot the issue, try deactivating the Foovideo extension to see if this fixes the issue with the Pinterest pin.

Let me know how this goes.

    Kind regards,
    Blaise.

    Hi Blaise,

Thanks so much for taking a look at my site, I really appreciate it. I did disable the Food Video extension, but I can’t see a change in the Pinterest ALT text issue.

I cleared all the caches I could find before trying to Pin again to check.

I’ve left Food Video disabled in case you want to see.

    Thanks again,

    Nancy

    Hi @nancyinpink,

Which extension/plugin are you using to share Pinterest so that we can investigate the issue on our side?

    Kind regards,
    Blaise.

    Hi Blaise,

I’m not using a plugin for Pinterest sharing on my site at the moment, I have done in the past, but it’s currently disabled. In the past I have had Weblizar Pin It Button On Image Hover And Post activated, but the issue was the same with ALT text.

I have primarily been testing sharing to Pinterest using the official Pinterest Chrome browser extension.

I have also tried using the share function on my iPad and iPhone (so when I’m looking at the site in the iOS Safari browser, I click the share button, then the Pinterest icon, then am able to pin the image).

None of these ways generate ALT text for the pin. Whatever is written in the Caption in Media Library becomes the Text Description in Pinterest, but that’s it. The pin title is taken from the page title (I think this is standard for Pinterest).

    Hi @nancyinpink,

    Sorry for the delayed response.

I have tested the Pinterest share chrome extension in the gallery at https://monosnap.com/file/POFpqq5cqHTDpqQzY8Zh6KfnDc8yyd and the alt text is available on some images when shared to Pinterest as shown in the screenshot:https://monosnap.com/file/xxiGQaajVaN7euxkb7m7KfZbq3nmk8. However, it seems to be missing in some images when shared via Pinterest.

Could you try contacting the author of the Pinterest extension since they are the creators of the extension and know how best it works? The alt text is available in the galleries tag but Pinterest is not able to pull the alt text on some images. This could be a fault on their side since the full HTML code with the alt text is available in the console on homepage for “make a wish” image.

    Kind regards,
    Blaise.

Thanks for investigating Blaise! I’ll see what Pinterest says, as it’s happening with all Pinterest share functions I’ve been able to test, on all devices, not just that extension. I’ve tested iPhone/iPad/Android, plus Mac desktop.

    Thanks again,

    Nancy
