I need to attach ALT and Caption tags to a 100+ images.

I’m using Quick Edit, and my process is:

Type the Caption text, Cntl-A, Cntrl-C, tab, Cntrl-V into Description, tab, Cntrl-V into Caption, tab,

Then some combination of Tab + Enter to update.

When I look at the listing, the ALT Text column is empty, and the field is empty when I go back in on quick edit. It’s like the second Cntrl-V didn’t do anything, although text is displayed in the field at the time.

Having to go back into the record to add an ALT tag is a PITA. Where’s the problem?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I have been able to reproduce your issue in one specific sequence of commands:

    1. Type the Caption text
    2. Cntrl-A, Cntrl-C, tab, Cntrl-V into Description
    3. tab, Cntrl-V into ALT Text
    4. Enter

In other words, if you type “Enter” before leaving the ALT Text field, the update is lost. If I type “Tab”, moving the focus from the ALT Text field to the Parent ID field, then type “Enter”, the ALT Text update is preserved. On my system, only the “Cntrl-V, Enter” sequence is causing the problem. If you enter Cntrl-V and then click the “Update” button, the update is preserved as well.

I will look into the “Cntrl-V, Enter” case. Can you give the “Cntrl-V, Tab, Enter” sequence a try and let me know if that works for you?

Thank you for the report and for your understanding.

Installed Media Library Assistant on a different site tonight. Both Genesis theme, different child themes.

    Same problem.

Carefully tabbed all the way over to the Update button and still no Alt text. (Pretty sure I had the same result on the first site last night.)

Go back into Quick Edit, Paste (Text still in the clipboard), Update, fine.

(Did you mean for the ALT text to display in blue on the Media listing, when everything else is in black? That is, the ALT text entry is a live link that takes me to the single-entry display of that image. Don’t go anywhere if I click on the black Caption entry.)

BTW: On the second trip through Quick Edit, I can paste the text in and hit Update while the cursor is still in the ALT text field, and the Update holds.

My apologies for prolonging your pain; I have found a defect in the way ALT Text data is returned and displayed after changes in the Quick Edit area. The values in the database are, in fact, updated but the old value is returned to the browser.

If you refresh the entire screen, or click the “Edit” rollover action for the affected item to go to the Media/Edit Media screen you should see the new value in ALT Text.

I will fix this defect in the next version. In the interim, I believe you’ll find that your changes are being made but not properly displayed. If you find that’s NOT the case, let me know.

With regard to your other question regarding the Media/Assistant submenu table, yes – the blue value in the ALT Text column indicates a link that will filter the display on its value when clicked. Many of the columns in the table have a similar feature; filtering the table listing by, for example, taxonomy terms or taking you to the Edit screen for a parent post/page.

Thanks for your patience, your understanding and your interest in the plugin. I regret the confusion in finding and fixing this bug.

    That’s working (refresh). Whew. thx

I have released version 1.80, which should resolve the issue of updating the display of ALT Text data in the Quick Edit area.

I am marking this issue resolved, but please let me know if you are still having this problem with the new version. Thank you for your patience.
