Searched for this on google and found that people say that wordpress generates the title tag and the alt tag from the image name. Well, mine does not, title tag yes alt tag no, it doesn’t even do anything with seo friendly images plugin only the title tag is generated by wp (with a little red star next to the box, should a red star be there??) from the image file name. I have 1000 images to upload I need an alt tag generator of some sort. My wp version is the latest one. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thank you!

When you upload or edit an image there is a field “Alternate Text”. This is what wordpress uses to create the alt property. The red star next to the title means it is a required value. You cannot leave this blank.

    keesimeier, thanks very much!

I am under the impression that wp should generate the alt text automatically just like it does the title tag from the jpg name. Is this not the case?

No I dont think this is the case in wordpress. maybe there are some plugins with this functionality.
