I’ve added ALT Descriptions to all my media images yet when I run my mouse across the blog’s updated entries, I see the file name rather than the ALT Description.

I’ve added the descriptions to the individual media files plus within each blog entry via the HTML page.

    Here’s an example:

    [caption id="attachment_1173" align="alignright" width="222" caption="Are We Cutting Costs or Making Money?"]<img class=”size-full wp-image-1173″ title=”Cut_Costs” src=”http://www.cdmdirect.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Cut_Costs.jpg” alt=”Cutting Direct Mail Costs or Making Money” width=”222″ height=”166″ />[/caption]

What I want to see is “Cutting Direct Mail Costs or Making Money.” Instead, I see “Cut_Costs.”

What am I missing? Is there a setting that defaults to the file name or another step I need to take?

    Thanks.

  • The alt attribute is actually meant to display “alternative” text if the image cannot be displayed. Try using the title= attribute instead of alt= to get the hover text.

The ALT tag is in place in case the image doesn’t load, so the text will appear instead of being blank.

What needs to be changed is the title, like this:

title=”Cutting Direct Mail Costs or Making Money”
