Support » Plugin: Simple Membership » Almost Perfect BUT

  • This would easily get 5 from me but there is one major problem (not resolved) and one niggling problem (I have time consuming work around). There is security on the registration page but none on the normal login. This really doesn’t make sense to me. The niggle is the conflict when logged in to WP. You can’t login to Simple Membership when you are logged in to WP as admin. I don’t use the payment side so can’t comment on that. Otherwise this plugin is great.

Hi, in regards to your question about login as admin. Please read the following documentation. Let me know if you need more assistant.

Hi – I have done all that but it still doesn’t work. I am not sure if I am doing it correctly. It doesn’t like me logging in while still logged in as WP Admin.

I have been using a work around which doesn’t limit me too much when I am updating the content in the members area.

I am hoping the login on the member login page is resolved because that would be great. Hopefully the information I have provided will be useful. This will definitely make it a 5 for me.

Hi the above URL I shared with you is to allow the admin access to protected content.

    In regards to your comment.

I am not sure if I am doing it correctly. It doesn’t like me logging in while still logged in as WP Admin.

Why are you trying to log using Membership login when you are already logged in as admin using WP Admin login?

I log in (wp-login.php) to the WordPress website as admin. Then add some pages to the members area. When I go directly to that page on the website I get “You need to login to view this content. Please Login. Not a Member? Join Us”. It doesn’t recognise I am already logged in. When I try to login using the Members Only page I get “This section is for our team members and fellow colleagues only. You have to register before you can access this information.” plus the login. If I try to log in I get that admin error message.

    I hope that is clear.

Thank you that makes sense to me. 😉

    Try the following troubleshooting instructions.

Now I am really angry. You have completely f***** my website ad I basically have to start from scratch and rebuild everything. I did what you asked and the same problem existed with just your plugin. After testing another thee my original theme lost everything. I am really furious.

Hi, sorry to hear about your problem. Did you have a backup of your site? The developers have put together the troubleshooting URL to help find what might be causing a problem. Disabling plugins should not cause a theme to loose all the settings, that is very strange.

Once again my apologies for this issue.

My ISP does backup every day so all is well eventually after plenty of stress. The issue was testing on another theme which wiped the widgets and would have meant a tonne of recreation.

    Anyway now I can relax.

The login tested without any plugins except simple membership is still a problem. Testing on another theme still has the same problem.

Still as I said I do have a workaround. The big issue at the moment is this secure login. Hopefully that can be resolved and reduce the ease for people to break in.

I can now sleep in peace knowing I don’t have to spend a long time recreating all the widgets.

Hi, I am happy to know that you recovered your website. That is a big relief for you and for me as well. I know too well how one feels if they find themselves in your situation. However nowadays with my WordPress knowledge it rarely happens and if it does I recover in no time 🙂

I will send a message to plugin developers in regards to your request.

    Thank you

You can’t log into WP Admin and then in the same browser log in as a member. It doesn’t work that way.

If you want to test the member login functionality, then use a different browser where you are not also logged in as admin. Basically, create a scenario close to what your real users will face. Your real users are not going to be logged into your site as admin.

Thank you. I believe I understand roughly how it works now and can work around it. Hopefully you will be able to provide/include the captcha for the member login soon. Everything else works great although I only use free membership.

Once more thanks. Using a different browser works fine for checking members only pages.
